Xica Manicongo
Xica Manicongo is recognized as the first travesti in Brazil, having arrived enslaved and later finding refuge among the Indigenous Tupinambás in Bahia. Her story is being celebrated in the 2023 Carnival parade by the Paraíso do Tuiuti samba school, which aims to promote respect for the LGBTQIA+ community through her narrative.
