Yashar Shikhametov

Yashar Shikhametov is a Crimean Tatar political prisoner who has been incarcerated in a Russian penal colony. He has reportedly lost 30 kg due to severe health issues, including joint deterioration and other serious medical conditions. Arrested in February 2021 during a crackdown on Crimean Tatars, he is accused of participating in the banned political party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which is legal in Ukraine and other countries but labeled as terrorist by Russia.
