Yolanda Arencibia Santana

Yolanda Arencibia Santana (1939-2023) was a renowned Spanish philologist and expert on the life and works of Benito Pérez Galdós. Born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, she became the first female professor of Spanish Philology at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and served as the first dean of its Faculty of Philology. Her extensive academic contributions include a significant biography of Galdós, which won the Comillas Prize for History and Biography in 2020. Arencibia was a passionate advocate for Galdós's legacy, emphasizing his relevance in contemporary discussions of love, death, and societal issues.
