Zacarías Bonnat

Zacarías Bonnat is a Dominican weightlifter who gained international recognition after winning a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. However, his career faced a significant setback when he was suspended for four years by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in late 2022 due to testing positive for a banned substance. Bonnat has publicly maintained his innocence, claiming he never intentionally consumed performance-enhancing drugs and suggesting possible contamination. In addition to his athletic achievements, Bonnat serves as a corporal in the Dominican Armed Forces and has been an advocate for mental health support during his suspension. He is expected to return to competition in December 2024.
