Zachar Chernyshev

Zachar Chernyshev was a prominent figure in the late 18th century, serving as the first Governor-General of Belarus under Empress Catherine II. Known for his commitment to European classical ideals, he played a significant role in the urban planning of Chechersk, transforming it into a model city inspired by London’s reconstruction post-Great Fire. Chernyshev's efforts included the construction of the town hall, which became a central architectural feature of the city, reflecting the neoclassical style he favored.
