
Zahra Lake
Dr. Zahra Lake is a recent PhD graduate from Western Illinois University, whose dissertation focuses on the transformative effects of steel band education in fostering empowerment, cultural identity, and social justice. As a prominent figure in the steelpan community of Antigua and Barbuda, she has held leadership roles in various local steel orchestras and made history as the first female arranger to win a panorama competition. Currently teaching at Antigua State College and the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus, Dr. Lake aims to promote steelband education as a vital component of cultural pride and social inclusion.
