
Zauresh Kumarova
Zauresh Kumarova, born in 1928 in the Guryev region of Kazakhstan, was a pioneering figure in the oil refining industry, becoming the first Kazakh woman to take on the profession. Orphaned at a young age, she displayed remarkable resilience and dedication, beginning her career at the age of 17 as a welder before advancing to an operator role at the Atyrau Oil Refinery. Her commitment to her work earned her numerous accolades, including the 'For Valorous Labor' medal. Beyond her professional achievements, Kumarova also made history as a deputy in both the Guryev City Council and the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR. She worked tirelessly for three decades at the refinery and continued to inspire future generations, including her granddaughter, who currently works in the same industry.
