Zhiguli Dairabaev is a member of Kazakhstan's Mazhilis (the lower house of Parliament), who recently highlighted the alarming trend of population decline in rural areas during a roundtable discussion on rural development. He reported that over the past two years, 80 villages have disappeared from the map of Kazakhstan, with a significant net migration loss of over 111,000 people from rural regions last year, marking the lowest rural population percentage in 25 years.
