Zholdybai Nurlibaev
Zholdybai Nurlibaev was a Soviet hero and a distinguished commander in the Great Patriotic War, particularly known for his role in the Battle of Stalingrad. Born in 1922 in what is now the Turkestan region of Kazakhstan, he served as the commander of a battery in the 507th Anti-Tank Artillery Regiment. Nurlibaev was an educator before the war, having taught history and geography. He joined the front lines in 1941 and fought valiantly until his death in 1945 during a battle in Poland. His poignant letters to his wife, Ekaterina Prudnikova, written during the war, reveal his deep emotions and the harsh realities of combat, and they have become a significant part of the historical narrative surrounding the sacrifices made by soldiers during World War II.
