Zhu Yuanzhang

Zhu Yuanzhang, also known as the Hongwu Emperor, was the founder of the Ming dynasty in China, reigning from 1368 to 1398. Born into a poor peasant family, he rose to prominence as a military leader, eventually overthrowing the Mongol-led Yuan dynasty. His reign marked a significant period of stability and prosperity in China, characterized by economic expansion, the establishment of a centralized bureaucratic system, and the promotion of Confucianism. Zhu is also notable for introducing paper currency, which helped transform China's economy. His legacy continues to influence Chinese history and culture, especially in his hometown of Fengyang, where the Fengyang Drum Tower, a significant historical site, is located.
