Achmad Kadyrov
Achmad Kadyrov was a prominent Chechen religious leader and politician who played a pivotal role during the Chechen wars in the 1990s. Initially supporting the Chechen cause for independence from Russia, he later switched allegiance to the Russian government, believing that Chechnya would fare better under Russian control. Following the assassination of his predecessor, he became the head of the Chechen Republic in 2003, a position he held until his assassination in 2004. His legacy is complex, as he is seen by some as a traitor and by others as a stabilizing force in a region marked by conflict.
