Agustín de Jesús

Agustín de Jesús was a visionary music educator who founded the Orquesta Agustín de Jesús in Monte Plata, Dominican Republic, in 1993. Initially starting as a marching band, he transformed the group into a merengue orchestra in 2018 to reconnect students with their cultural roots. His innovative approach led to the creation of the album 'De vuelta al merengue,' which showcases the talents of young musicians and emphasizes the importance of music education in fostering identity and social change. After his passing, the orchestra continues to thrive under the leadership of Alexander Vásquez, a former student, and has become a beacon of artistic achievement in the region.
