Aidan Heavey

Aidan Heavey is the founder of Tullow Oil, an Irish oil and gas exploration company established in the mid-1980s. With a background as an accountant for Aer Lingus, Heavey raised initial funds from family and friends to invest in gasfields in Africa. Under his leadership, Tullow grew significantly through strategic acquisitions, including the purchase of producing gasfields in the North Sea and operations in various African countries, propelling the company into the FTSE 100. However, Tullow faced substantial challenges over the years, including plunging oil prices and rising debt, ultimately leading Heavey to step down as CEO in 2017 after a decade of tumultuous market conditions.
