Alan Bartlett Shepard Jr.
Alan Bartlett Shepard Jr. (1923-1998) was a distinguished American naval officer and astronaut, famously known as the first American to travel into space in 1961 as part of NASA's Mercury program. He later commanded the Apollo 14 mission in 1971, becoming the fifth person to walk on the Moon and the only Mercury Seven astronaut to do so.
