
Alejandro Labaka Ugarte
Alejandro Labaka Ugarte (1920-1987), a Spanish missionary, dedicated his life to serving indigenous peoples in the Amazon alongside his colleague, Inés Arango Velásquez. He was deeply committed to fostering relationships with the Huaorani tribe, which led to his tragic death alongside Arango in 1987. His life of service and sacrifice has recently been acknowledged by Pope León XIV, who has taken steps toward his beatification.
