Aleksander Litvinenko

Aleksander Litvinenko was a former officer of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) who defected to the UK and became an outspoken critic of the Russian government. He gained international attention when he was poisoned with radioactive polonium-210 in London in 2006, an assassination widely believed to have been ordered by the Kremlin. His death sparked a diplomatic crisis between the UK and Russia and highlighted issues of state-sponsored violence and human rights abuses.
