Aleksei Navalnyi was a prominent Russian opposition politician and anti-corruption activist known for his outspoken criticism of President Vladimir Putin and the Russian government. He gained international attention for his investigations into government corruption and his efforts to mobilize public protests against electoral fraud. Navalnyi was poisoned in 2020 with a nerve agent, which he attributed to the Kremlin, and he was later imprisoned on charges widely regarded as politically motivated. In February 2024, he died in prison under suspicious circumstances, with several European countries alleging that he was poisoned with a rare toxin called epibatidine, found in South American frogs.
