Alexander Saroukhán

Alexander Saroukhán was a pioneering Egyptian caricaturist, renowned for his unique style and the creation of the iconic character 'Egyptian Afendi'. He played a crucial role in establishing caricature as a form of political commentary in the Middle East, particularly against corruption. His works captured the essence of Egyptian life, notably the traditional wedding ceremony, and earned him recognition as one of the top 100 caricaturists of the 20th century by Studio magazine in 1957. Saroukhán was granted Egyptian citizenship by President Gamal Abdel Nasser, solidifying his legacy in the Egyptian art scene.
