Alexandr Isaievici Soljenițîn was a Russian novelist, activist, and anti-communist dissident known for exposing the harsh realities of the Soviet gulag system through his literary works, including 'The Gulag Archipelago' and 'One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich'. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1970 for his ethical force in continuing the traditions of Russian literature and was exiled from the Soviet Union in 1974, returning after the fall of communism in 1994.
