Anastasia Smirnov

Anastasia Smirnov is a Russian expatriate who fled with her husband, German, and their young son, Timur, due to political persecution in Russia. Facing the threat of arrest and conscription for opposing the regime in the wake of the controversial 2024 elections, the family sought asylum in the United States but were deported to Costa Rica under the Trump administration. After enduring a harrowing experience in detention, they were eventually welcomed by a Quaker community in Monteverde, where they continue to adapt to their new life, seeking stability and security for their family.
