
Anghel Demetriescu
Anghel Demetriescu was a prominent Romanian educator and cultural figure, born in Alexandria on July 18, 1878. He pursued studies in literature and history, later becoming a professor and head of various educational institutions in Bucharest. His contributions to Romanian culture included serving as a member of the Romanian Athenaeum and the National Theatre, and he played a significant role in establishing popular libraries in Romania. Demetriescu's scholarly work included translating important historical texts, and he was elected a corresponding member of the Romanian Academy in 1902. He passed away in Karlsbad on July 18, 1903.
