Antonie de Bălți

Antonie de Bălți is a prominent figure in the Romanian Orthodox Church, recently appointed as the head of the Mitropolia Basarabiei following the resignation of his predecessor amid a scandal. Born on May 29, 1963, in Hârbovăț, Moldova, he has a background in medicine and theology, having graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Chișinău and the Faculty of Orthodox Theology 'Dumitru Stăniloae' in Iași. Since 1995, he has been actively involved in various administrative and cultural roles within the Mitropolia Basarabiei, emphasizing the church's mission and development. His appointment as the new Metropolitan comes at a critical time for the diocese, which has faced significant challenges in leadership and credibility.
