Archibald John Monteath
Archibald John Monteath, originally known as Aniaso, was a formerly enslaved African who was born in Igboland, Africa, and brought to Jamaica in the early 1800s. He became a prominent Moravian evangelist, known for his dedication to the Christian faith, which earned him recognition and respect among both the missionaries and the local community. Monteath's grave, marked by a headstone in the Carmel Moravian Church graveyard in Westmoreland, is significant as it is one of the few identifiable burial sites of an enslaved person in Jamaica.
