Ariki Honetana-Paea is an artist and co-founder of Maaia Boots, a business that specializes in creating custom-designed gumboots. Inspired by his partner and the need for more accessible artwork, he transitioned from traditional canvas art to printed designs, allowing families to enjoy Māori patterns on footwear. Despite initial challenges in securing partnerships with established gumboot brands, Ariki's determination led to self-funding the business and a successful launch, which quickly sold out its first order. The brand not only focuses on its own designs but also aims to support other Māori artists by offering them wholesale prices for customization.
