Arthur Robert Ashe Jr.
Arthur Robert Ashe Jr. was an American tennis player and civil rights activist, born on July 10, 1943, in Richmond, Virginia. He made history as the first African American to win the US Open in 1968, and later won the Australian Open and Wimbledon. Ashe was not only known for his remarkable achievements on the court but also for his advocacy against racism and his efforts to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS after he publicly revealed his own diagnosis in 1992. His legacy is honored by the Arthur Ashe Stadium, the largest tennis stadium in the world, named in his memory.
