Athanasius Kircher

Athanasius Kircher (1601-1680) was a German Jesuit scholar and polymath, whose wide-ranging interests included geology, archaeology, and linguistics. Often referred to as the 'father of Egyptology', Kircher made significant contributions to the understanding of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs and was known for his ambitious works that sought to explain the natural world through a combination of science, philosophy, and mysticism, including his influential text 'Arcana Microcosmi' which explored various natural phenomena.
