Aung San Su Kyi

Aung San Su Kyi is a prominent Burmese politician, diplomat, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate who served as the State Counsellor of Myanmar from 2016 until her ousting in a military coup in February 2021. She is the daughter of Aung San, a national hero and independence leader, and became an international symbol of peaceful resistance against oppressive regimes. Su Kyi's political career has been marked by her long struggle for democracy in Myanmar, leading her party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), to a landslide victory in the 2015 general elections. However, her leadership has also faced criticism, particularly regarding her government's handling of the Rohingya crisis. Since the coup, she has been detained and faces various charges widely seen as politically motivated.
