Bartomeu Melià was a Spanish Jesuit, linguist, and anthropologist who dedicated much of his life to studying the Guaraní people. His research encompassed their language, culture, and history, with a particular interest in the effects of Jesuit reductions in Paraguay. Melià was also a strong advocate for Indigenous rights and made significant contributions to social and linguistic anthropology.
