Békés Márton

Békés Márton is a Hungarian historian and political scientist known for his work on the political nature of the National Cooperation System (NER) in Hungary. He serves as the director of the XXI. Century Institute and is the chief editor of the journal Kommentár. His recent book, "Nemzeti maximum," analyzes the ideological foundations and operational mechanisms of the NER, asserting that the era of Viktor Orbán has fundamentally reshaped Hungarian politics over the past fifteen years. Békés argues that the NER represents a distinct political construction that cannot be classified solely as a liberal democracy or an authoritarian regime, advocating for a pragmatic and action-oriented political practice focused on national interests and state sovereignty.
