
Bohdan Chmelnyckyj
Bohdan Chmelnyckyj (1595–1657) was a prominent Ukrainian Cossack leader and hetman who played a critical role in the struggle for Ukrainian autonomy against Polish rule. He is best known for leading the Cossack uprising against the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the mid-17th century, which ultimately resulted in the Treaty of Pereyaslav and a subsequent alliance with Russia.
