Carlton Mackey is the founder of Black Men Smile, an apparel brand that was featured in Target's Black History Month collection in 2024. In response to Target's reversal on its DEI commitments, Mackey expressed his inability to continue supporting the company, feeling that the changes represented a significant departure from the values that initially aligned the brand with Target.
