Carmel Shute

Carmel Shute was a former union organizer for the ABC Staff Association who took a stand against asbestos exposure in the Elsternwick studios during the 1980s. She led efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of asbestos when workers refused to service an event due to safety concerns, which ultimately prompted action from management.
