Caterina de Barros
Caterina de Barros is the mother of Sofia de Barros, who tragically passed away at the age of eight from metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD). In response to her daughter's death, Caterina, alongside her husband Guido, co-founded the association Voa Voa, which advocates for early diagnosis and treatment of MLD in Tuscany. Their efforts have successfully implemented screening tests in hospitals to detect this rare neurodegenerative disease, aiming to prevent similar tragedies for other families. Caterina has been vocal about the importance of making these tests available across all Italian regions, highlighting the potential to save lives through early intervention.
