Charles Wootton

Charles Wootton was a Royal Navy serviceman whose tragic death during the Liverpool race riots of 1919 highlighted the violence faced by Black individuals in Britain at the time. He was killed by a mob of white dockworkers, an incident that underscored the racial tensions and hostilities prevalent in post-World War I Britain, as returning soldiers faced competition for jobs and housing.
