
David Astor
David Astor was a British newspaper editor and a close friend of George Orwell. He served as the editor of the Observer from 1948 to 1975 and was instrumental in providing Orwell with a platform for his writings, particularly during the latter part of his life. Astor also played a key role in helping Orwell find a suitable home on the Isle of Jura, where Orwell wrote his final and most famous novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four.
