Derek Boston
Derek Boston was a renowned Guyanese sculptor known for his intricate craftsmanship and deep inspiration drawn from African history and culture. A self-taught artist, Boston made significant contributions to the visual arts scene in Guyana, notably with his powerful five-foot sculpture depicting the North Atlantic Slave Trade. His work was regularly showcased at exhibitions organized by Guyana United Artists and he participated in the National Visual Arts Competition until its conclusion in 2019. Boston's passing marked a profound loss for the small and diminishing community of senior artists in Guyana.
