Dom Teodoro Mendes Tavares, born on January 7, 1964, in Santiago, Cabo Verde, is a prominent Roman Catholic bishop and member of the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit (Espiritans). He has served in various capacities within the Church, including as the bishop of Ponta de Pedras in Brazil and has a specialization in Ecumenism. Recently appointed by Pope Leo XIV as the new bishop of the Diocese of Santiago de Cabo Verde, he will succeed Cardinal Dom Arlindo Gomes Furtado, who resigned upon reaching the age limit set by Church law. His ordination and commitment to inter-religious dialogue have marked his ecclesiastical career.
