merchant Egypt

Emad Mouawad is a 44-year-old Egyptian merchant who spent nearly two years in captivity in Sudan, where he was wrongfully accused of being an Egyptian spy by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Detained alongside other Egyptians, Mouawad experienced severe conditions in RSF prisons, including inadequate food, rampant disease, and the constant threat of death. He was released in a joint operation by Egyptian and Sudanese security forces on March 25, 2025, and has since returned to his village in Fayoum, Egypt, where he is trying to recover from the physical and psychological trauma of his ordeal.
