Empress Masako
Empress Masako, born on December 9, 1963, is the wife of Emperor Naruhito and the first Japanese-born empress in over two centuries. She is a former diplomat, having studied at Harvard University and the University of Tokyo, and has worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since her marriage in 2004, she has taken on numerous royal duties, focusing on issues such as health, education, and international relations. Empress Masako has also been open about her struggles with mental health, which has garnered widespread support. She joined her husband in welcoming guests during the celebrations for his 65th birthday on February 23, 2023.
