Farid Sami

Farid Sami is a 52-year-old Afghan who runs a grocery store in Borgo Mezzanone, Italy's largest shantytown, after fleeing Taliban violence. He studied economics in Glasgow and worked as a translator for US Marines in Kabul before seeking asylum in Italy. Known as 'Baba' to his customers, he provides not only essential goods but also a friendly ear, embodying the community spirit in the ghetto.
