
Francisco de Montesinos
Francisco de Montesinos was a Spanish Franciscan friar and missionary known for his role in the early colonization of the Americas. He is most notably recognized for founding the settlement of Nueva Córdoba in present-day Venezuela on February 1, 1562. Despite his initial efforts to establish a successful colony, the settlement struggled to thrive and eventually fell into decline.
