Francisco Piyãko

Francisco Piyãko is the general coordinator of the Organisation of Indigenous People of the Juruá River and a prominent leader of the Asháninka community. He has been vocal about the severe threats faced by Indigenous populations in the Brazilian-Peruvian border region due to the encroachment of organized crime, particularly in the context of drug trafficking and environmental degradation. Recently, he participated in an emergency delegation to Brasília, urging the Brazilian government to provide protection for Indigenous territories increasingly targeted by armed intruders.
