Gabriel Hurtado-Cariaco is a Venezuelan asylum seeker who was arrested in June 2025 during an immigration enforcement encounter that escalated into violence. Initially accused of attempted murder and labeled as a terrorist linked to the Tren de Aragua gang, bystander videos later contradicted the federal agents' accounts, leading to downgraded charges and a plea agreement. Hurtado-Cariaco, who had previously deserted the Venezuelan military due to political opposition, was sentenced to 14 months in prison.
