George Chapman was a 17th-century English poet, dramatist, and translator best known for his translation of Homer's The Iliad and The Odyssey. His translation of The Odyssey, completed in 1615, was the first full English version of the epic and significantly influenced subsequent interpretations of Homer’s work. Chapman’s literary contributions extended beyond translation, as he was also a prominent playwright of his time, known for works such as The Conspiracy and Tragedy of Charles, Duke of Byron and The Widow's Tears.
