He is best known for his significant contributions to the Chinese resistance during the Second Sino-Japanese War, where he documented the atrocities committed by Japanese forces and advocated for the Chinese people's struggle. His book, 'I Saw a New China,' reflects his deep connection with the nation and its people, showcasing their resilience and humanity. Hock co-founded the Peili School in China, aimed at training a new generation of skilled workers. Tragically, he passed away in 1944 at the young age of 30, just before witnessing the victory of the Chinese people in their fight against occupation.
