
Georgs Barkāns
Georgs Barkāns (1925–2010) was a prominent Latvian textile artist and innovator who played a key role in the flourishing of textile art in Latvia during the latter half of the 20th century. His work, characterized by a unique blend of historical references and modern aesthetics, often drew inspiration from Latvian folklore and mythology. Barkāns was also a dedicated educator, teaching at the Riga Applied Arts School, where he contributed significantly to the development of contemporary design methodologies. His artistic legacy is celebrated through various exhibitions, including a recent showcase dedicated to his centenary at the Decorative Arts and Design Museum.
