Giovanni Battista Carlone

Giovanni Battista Carlone was a prominent Italian painter born in Genoa in 1603. Known for his prolific contributions to the arts, Carlone's work is characterized by a blend of Mannerism and Baroque styles. He created numerous frescoes and canvases that adorned churches throughout Genoa, with the Basilica della Santissima Annunziata del Vastato housing many of his notable pieces. His artistic legacy continued through his son Andrea, while Carlone himself became a significant figure in the cultural landscape of 17th-century Genoa, where he worked extensively until his death in 1684.
