Giulia Tofana
Giulia Tofana was an Italian herbalist and poisoner born in Palermo around 1620. She is infamous for creating a lethal poison known as Aqua Tofana, which she marketed to women seeking to escape abusive marriages. Tofana operated her deadly business for nearly two decades, allegedly helping hundreds of women by providing them with a poison disguised as a cosmetic product. Her methods remained shrouded in secrecy until her arrest in 1651, after which she was executed. Despite her death, the legacy of her poison and its effects reportedly lingered in Europe for many years, sparking speculation about its use in various historical figures' deaths, including that of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
