
Giuseppe Zangara
Giuseppe Zangara was an Italian immigrant who, on February 15, 1933, attempted to assassinate U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt during a speech in Miami. Motivated by personal pain and broader social anger during the Great Depression, Zangara fired multiple shots, injuring several people, including Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak, who later died from his wounds. Zangara was convicted of murder and executed in March 1933.
