Guerman Titov

Guerman Titov

cosmonaut Russia

Guerman Titov was a Soviet cosmonaut who made history on August 9, 1961, when he flew aboard Vostok 2, becoming the second human to orbit the Earth. At the age of 26, he set a record by spending 25 hours in space, completing 17 orbits around the planet, and was the first person to remain in space for more than a day. His mission followed Yuri Gagarin's historic flight by just a few months, and while Gagarin's journey was a significant milestone, Titov's longer duration and active control of the spacecraft distinguished his mission in the annals of space exploration. Titov's contributions to the Soviet space program were pivotal during the early years of human spaceflight.
